Description
The TP-Link RE315 AC1200 Mesh Wi-Fi Range Extender is a versatile, budget-friendly solution designed to eliminate Wi-Fi dead zones in small to medium-sized homes or offices. Leveraging 802.11ac (Wi-Fi 5) technology, it delivers dual-band speeds up to 1.2Gbps, with 867Mbps on the 5GHz band (80MHz, MCS0-MCS9, NSS 1-2) for streaming and light gaming, and 300Mbps on the 2.4GHz band (40MHz) for browsing and IoT devices. 2×2 MIMO supports up to 25–32 devices, ideal for low to medium-density environments. Adaptive Path Selection automatically chooses the fastest connection path to the router, optimizing performance.
Equipped with two adjustable external antennas, the RE315 extends Wi-Fi coverage up to 1500 sq.ft. (140 m², environment-dependent), suitable for small homes or large apartments. An intelligent signal light (blue for good connection, red for weak) aids optimal placement. The single 10/100Mbps Ethernet port supports wired connections to devices like smart TVs or gaming consoles and enables Access Point (AP) Mode to create a dual-band Wi-Fi hotspot from a wired connection. The wall-plug design (89 × 35.0 × 124.1 mm, white) is compact but lacks mains passthrough, occupying the socket. Power consumption is 9.5W max.
TP-Link OneMesh and EasyMesh compatibility allow the RE315 to form a seamless mesh network with a single SSID when paired with compatible routers (e.g., TP-Link Archer A7, AX21), enabling smart roaming for uninterrupted streaming while moving around. It supports Ethernet backhaul in mesh mode for improved speeds. The extender is universally compatible with any Wi-Fi router or access point. Setup is straightforward via the TP-Link Tether app (iOS 9.0+, Android 4.4+, 5–10 minute setup), WPS button, or web-based interface (tplinkrepeater.net). Security features include 64/128-bit WEP, WPA/WPA2-PSK, and WPA3 encryption. Reviews praise its affordability ($20–$50), easy setup, and reliable performance (e.g., 500–600Mbps on 5GHz at close range), but note the non-Gigabit Ethernet port and weaker 2.4GHz range in crowded environments as limitations. Firmware updates enhance stability and WPA3 support.
